Full-Figured Fashion Weeks have become increasingly popular due to a demand in the consumer marketplace for trendy clothing for the modern, curvy woman. According to PLUS Model Magazine, roughly 50 percent of women wear a size 14 or larger, but most standard clothing outlets cater to smaller sizes. Additionally, outlets that do offer larger sizes have traditionally been conservative in style.
Tonia Minor-White, CEO and Founder of Virginia Full-Figured Fashion Week, agrees with this statistic. She planned the event as a result of her own experiences and difficulty finding fashionable clothes to flatter her figure in retail stores.
“This event is meant to empower a group of people not focused on at all,” she said. “I want to show women that we can be plus-size, fashionable, have self-esteem and be proud of ourselves.”
Virginia Full-Figured Fashion Week is open to the public. Additional information regarding week of events, ticket sales and more can be found on the event website:
