#Hamilton is coming off a huge win at this year’s Grammys for Best Musical Theater Album. The only thing more monumental than the win was Miranda rapping the show’s acceptance speech live on the air. Look out for more well-known names to attach themselves to the project that is due out on Atlantic Records later this year. Find out more about how Hamilton came together here.
Miranda revealed plans for a mixtape back in October of 2015 on Twitter. “So the show is done. Cast album is out. Now we begin planning The Hamilton Mixtape. Remixes & Covers & Inspired bys. FOR REAL. GET READY,” he wrote. He later told Entertainment Weekly that Busta was the first artist he tapped for the project after he saw the show. “He was really the first hip-hop artist to see Hamilton, and it’s very hard to overstate how much I love Busta Rhymes as a hip-hop artist. That was the most nervous I’ve been for a person to see the show because his opinion meant everything to me.”
Many are now aware of the popular Broadway musical Hamilton that tells America’s history through rap thanks to the ensemble’s performance during this year’s Grammys. Now, the creator and mastermind of the blockbuster show, Lin-Manuel Miranda, is curating remixes, covers, and tracks inspired by the play for an official Hamilton Mixtape. So far, Miranda has enlisted #Chance the Rapper, #Usher, #Sia, #Busta Rhymes, Ben Folds, Regina Spektor, Queen Latifah, and more to contribute to the incredible project.
